Here is the latest information in regards to Macy’s 4^th of July Fireworks on the Hudson, honoring the 400^th Anniversary of the Hudson River.

The fireworks may be viewed from any area with an unobstructed view of the sky above the Hudson River. For the best views, head to 12^th Avenue below 59^th Street at the following access points along 11^th Avenue:

Brooklyn Museum Increase Admission Fee

Brooklyn Museum Increases Admissions Effective March 21, 2009

Brooklyn, NY…March 20, 2009. The Brooklyn Museum announced today that it will increase its suggested admission fee to $10 for adults and to $6 for older adults and students with valid identification, effective Saturday, March 21, 2009. Admission, which has not been increased since 2004, is currently $8 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. Admission for Target First Saturdays, the Museum’s evening of art and entertainment, will continue to be free from 5 to 11 p.m. as will general admission for Members and children under 12 accompanied by an adult. Target First Saturdays are also supported through funds from a major endowment from the Wallace Foundation.

“We truly regret that the challenges created by the economic downturn have made it necessary to modestly increase the admissions fee at the Brooklyn Museum. We are grateful to the Department of Cultural Affairs for its support as we move forward with this suggested admissions increase.

End of Summer Weekend

As the beginning of fall comes this Sunday, most of the summer time events will now come to a close. Some of NY’s most historic places have already closed forever such as Coney Island Astroland Park. But another landmark will close forever, a yearly event ends and some are weekend events worth checking out as well as new beginnings for NYC. Enjoy the last days of summer weekend.

Whether you are taking pictures or going to a game, regardless, this is the last weekend to see enjoy one last game at good old Yankee Stadium fully operational before closing it’s doors on Sunday, September 21^st. So enjoy the trip down memory lane where players such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gerrig, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra and even the players of today have made history and the stadium a legendary cathedral that will now vanish. And soon to come will be the end of Shea Stadium so stay tuned.

Enjoy culture and pride and at African American Day Parade. Venture up to Historic Harlem and enjoy the rythym and sounds of the African American Parade. Looking to tap into your artistic or creative spirit? This weekend, a new exhibit at the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) will open. Experience the works of Van Gogh and the Colors of Night that will start this weekend all the way through to January. This exhibition will present new insight into Van Gogh's depictions of night landscapes, interior scenes, and the effects of both gaslight and natural light on their surroundings. Representing all periods of the artist's career, the exhibition will comprise over two dozen works of superlative quality—several of which have never been seen together, even though they were very clearly conceived with each other in mind. This is a rare opportunity to see the masterpieces of Van Gogh in this traveling special exhibition.

Brooklyn Bridge turns 125

This week, New York's most beloved icon turns 125 years old. To Commemorate this special event, starting this Thursday and into the Memorial Day Weekend, there will be a series of different activities, events, historical tours and facts about the Brooklyn Bridge. Here is some information on what's happening for this event:

Celebration kick off on Thursday, May 22nd and it will be at Empire-Fulton State Ferry Park in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Philharmonic will be performing along with special guests. There will also be a fireworks extravaganza and then a festive lighting ceremony that will illuminate the entire bridge throughout the Memorial Weekend only from 9pm til 11pm. The park will be open beginning at 6pm and the concert starts at 7:45pm. Also on exhibit will be "The Telectroscope: A Window Through The World". This is a long forgotten tunnel that was built in between London and Brooklyn. This new exhibit will allow New Yorkers to see all the way to London. The Telectroscope will be open through June 15th.

Starting Friday, May 23rd will be the Brooklyn Bridge Film Series. "Disney's Enchanted" will be featured at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn. A live DJ will be spinning music starting at 6pm and the movie will begin at 8:30pm. Tribeca Cinemas on Varick Street will also be taking part in the festivities. They will be presenting "Mo' Better Blues" beginning at 7pm. Information Tents will also be around to give you historic information about the Brooklyn Bridge.

On Saturday May 24th The Brooklyn Bridge Film Series will continue at 8:30pm with the film "It Happened in Brooklyn" being featured. Also at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, a documentary about the Brooklyn Bridge will be featured starting at 4:30pm. The Brooklyn Icons Mini-Golf course will be featuring some of Brooklyn's most famous sites in minatures. The Brooklyn Bridge Walking Tour and a Lecture Series will also be taking place throughout the day by the Brooklyn Historical Society.

On Sunday, May 25th the Tour de Brooklyn event takes place beginning at 9:30am. The Brooklyn Bridge walking tours will also be available starting at 11am. Lecture Series will still be available for those interested in the History of Brooklyn. Dance and Musical performances will go on throughout the day at Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park. If I'm not the only one that's think this sounds good, then you should head on over to Bar Reis for $3 domestic beers and $3 quesadillas; you really can't go wrong with this one. Everyday except Saturdays, because on that day we have better things to do than to drink beer and eat quesadillas, we just do it someplace else!
